How to Brush Your Teeth

Where to place the brush on your teeth

> Place toothbrush at a 45 degree angle
> Place end of bristles where the gum line meets your teeth as shown

 

 

Correct Brushing Movement

> Use small, gentle, circular movements of the tooth brush
> Brush each tooth for about 10 seconds and move onto the next one

 

 

Important to brush the front and back of teeth

 

Brushing the Back of the teeth

> Tilt the brush as shown in the diagram
> Use the same brushing movement
> Repeat this for the back of the top and bottom row of teeth

 

 

Brushing the Side teeth Top & Bottom

> Place toothbrush over the row of teeth at the side of the mouth
> Clean with back and forth strokes as shown in the diagram

5 Easy Ways for Looking After Your Teeth

1. Dentists recommend to brush your teeth every day

  • twice a day is best
  • after eating when you get up
  • before you go to bed at night

2. Brush with a Fluoride toothpaste

  • fluoride makes teeth stronger

3. Cut down on sweet foods and drinks

  • eg soft drinks, sweets, cakes & biscuits, chocolate
  • Its better for your teeth and health to eat more fruit and vegetables

4. If you are taking any medications, they may give you a dry mouth.
    To keep your mouth moist and healthy you can:

  • drink more water
  • chew ‘sugar - free’ chewing gum
  • suck ‘sugar - free’ lollies

5. Visit a dentist for a check up . .

 

Ask your case worker about free dental services if you are on a disability support pension.
